Deezer Reports 44% of Daily Uploads Are AI Music

Music streaming service Deezer has revealed that 44 percent of all songs added to its platform each day consist entirely of AI-generated content. This equals about 75,000 new tracks daily, or more than two million per month. The figure marks a sharp rise from just over a year earlier, when daily AI uploads hovered around 10,000 songs.

Deezer, a Paris-based company founded in 2007 that now serves millions of subscribers worldwide, stands out as the sole streaming platform globally to routinely identify and mark AI-created music. The service rolled out its patented detection system in January 2025. This technology spots output from leading generative AI models such as Suno and Udio. To date, it has identified and labeled more than 13.4 million AI tracks.

Detection Tool Gains Wider Use

Deezer began offering licenses for its AI music detection technology to other firms in the music sector starting in January. The tool helps platforms and companies manage the influx of synthetic tracks. As AI generators like Suno, which launched publicly in late 2023, and Udio proliferate, such measures address growing concerns over content authenticity.

Survey Reveals Listener Views

A poll commissioned by Deezer and conducted by Ipsos involved 9,000 participants. In blind tests, 97 percent of respondents failed to distinguish AI-generated music from tracks made by humans. Despite this, 80 percent called for explicit labeling of AI content. Additionally, 52 percent opposed including AI songs in standard music charts.

Limited Reach and Widespread Fraud

Deezer automatically excludes detected AI tracks from its algorithmic recommendations and curated playlists. This keeps AI music's share of overall streams on the platform to just one to three percent. However, even those plays largely prove artificial. Fully 85 percent of streams for AI-generated tracks arise from bot activity or automated playback aimed at claiming royalties from collective pools. Deezer blocks these fraudulent streams from royalty distributions.

A striking example emerged recently in the United States. A resident of North Carolina admitted guilt in a scheme involving hundreds of thousands of AI-created songs paired with bot-generated streams. The operation netted over eight million dollars in royalties.

Varied Industry Responses

Other platforms tackle the AI music wave differently. Bandcamp, a site popular with independent artists since its 2008 launch, prohibits all AI-generated music outright. Apple Music, Apple's streaming service launched in 2015, depends on voluntary disclosures from labels and distributors to flag AI content.

A Rolling Stone report uncovered that prominent producers and songwriters incorporate AI generators in their work but avoid public admission due to potential backlash. Suno CEO Mikey Shulman likened his product to Ozempic in the music field. He said everyone relies on it privately, yet no one discusses it openly.

These developments highlight how AI tools reshape music distribution and consumption across major platforms.
